Terms of Service
Last updated: May 20, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Turn a Phrase mobile app and website (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Mocklet Design. By installing or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use the Service.
What you can do
You may install the Service on personal devices you own or control, use it for personal, non-commercial language learning, share your individual streak / score images on social media, and export your data at any time.
What you can't do
- Use the Service to harass, defame, or harm others.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app — except where law permits despite this restriction.
- Use automated tools (scrapers, bots, headless clients) to harvest content from the Service.
- Resell, sublicense, or rebrand the Service.
- Impersonate another user or misrepresent your identity.
Your account
You can use the Service as a guest (no account) or sign up with email. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. Tell us at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that threaten the safety or integrity of the Service.
Content
Idiom dossiers, origins, examples, and other content shown in the Service are either drawn from public-domain sources or generated by us with the help of language models (Claude, by Anthropic). We provide them "as is" for educational use. We do our best to be accurate, but idiom etymology is a contested field — if you spot an error, please send it to [email protected].
Intellectual property
The Service's name, brand, design, and code are owned by Mocklet Design and protected by copyright and trademark law. You don't acquire any ownership rights by using the Service.
The content of individual idiom entries (which are largely drawn from public sources) is not exclusively ours; you're welcome to use any specific idiom definition for your own learning or teaching.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific content is accurate. The Service is for language learning, not professional translation; don't rely on it for legal, medical, or business decisions.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Mocklet Design is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability, in any case, will not exceed the greater of (a) $20 USD or (b) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. (Spoiler: in v1 that amount is $0.)
Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We may also update these terms; the "Last updated" date at the top changes when we do. Material changes will be communicated in the app where required by law.
Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. We may terminate or suspend accounts that violate these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Mocklet Design is located, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
